Impersonating TikTok Phony Dodges £56K Damages

A phony TikTok impersonator avoids compensating for causing £56,000 in damages during a vengeful outburst, as per reports.

Leigh Sutherland, presently serving a nine-year sentence for a fatal accident involving a grandmother, engaged in peculiar online behavior, masquerading as a lawyer and law enforcement officer, and advising followers that “there’s a defense for every wrongdoing.”

Sutherland, 32, faced additional sentencing after confessing to participating in wrecking a residence and garage amid a family dispute. The destructive act resulted in extensive damage to a property in Mollinsburn, North Lanarkshire. Sutherland, hailing from Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire, appeared in court via a video link from prison last Friday.

Co-defendant Stephen McGlynn, 49, received a guilty verdict following a trial. The targeted property belonged to a relative of McGlynn.

During the incident, Sutherland, McGlynn, and unidentified accomplices vandalized interior fixtures, fittings, and walls of the house, in addition to damaging a garage, fencing, and an external wall.

Sutherland’s defense attorney, Simon Gilmour, disclosed that Sutherland is not slated for release until 2034.

Sheriff Paul Haran sentenced Sutherland to eight months in prison, to be served concurrently with his existing term, resulting in no additional jail time.

The sheriff stated, “Given your current situation, I find that the sentence should run concurrently with your existing one.”

McGlynn, reliant on state benefits, was instructed to compensate the homeowner with £12,000, payable in £500 monthly installments. Sheriff Haran acknowledged Sutherland’s inability to pay compensation.

McGlynn was also given a six-month electronic monitoring order, confining him at home between 7 pm and 7 am.

Sheriff Haran expressed hopes that this incident would mark the end of McGlynn’s legal entanglements within his family.

Earlier this year, Sutherland was imprisoned at the High Court for causing the death of 77-year-old Margaret Allan through reckless driving. The court revealed that Sutherland was speeding in a Ford Mondeo with faulty brakes when he collided with Mrs. Allan’s Peugeot 108 in Cumbernauld in June 2023.

Mrs. Allan sustained severe injuries and passed away three weeks later. A 10-year-old boy accompanying her was also hospitalized.

At the time of the collision, Sutherland was driving at least 44mph in a 40mph zone. Following the crash, he left the scene, attributing the incident to Mrs. Allan and falsely alleging a Romanian man had been test-driving his car.

Subsequent investigations uncovered defects in the vehicle’s anti-lock braking system and an improperly secured battery.
