“Golden Mojito: A Sweet Twist on a Classic Summer Cocktail”

On warm summer evenings, I enjoy sipping on Southern Comfort and lemonade or a refreshing fruity cider. In the UK, where high temperatures have persisted for two consecutive weeks, people are relishing the opportunity to socialize outdoors with loved ones thanks to the sunny weather.

As Brits embrace the outdoor social scene, they are also indulging in various alcoholic beverages. Despite Brits’ traditional preferences, the exploration of different alcohol options is a welcomed trend. Havana Club, a renowned Cuban rum brand celebrated for its meticulous aging process in premium wooden barrels, has introduced a new cocktail featuring one of its popular rum varieties.

Havana Club Añejo Especial, a premium golden Cuban rum with a distinctive double-aging process in white oak barrels, boasts flavors of vanilla, cinnamon, and toasted oak. This exceptional rum serves as the foundation for Havana Club’s signature summer drink – the golden mojito.

The key to the Golden Mojito’s allure lies in a simple yet impactful switch from white rum to dark rum. By using dark rum instead of white, the classic Mojito transforms into a more rounded, sweeter, and balanced concoction. The addition of vanilla and caramel tones softens the lime’s acidity, resulting in a smoother and richer flavor profile, perfect for unwinding after work or managing the summer holiday chaos.

This delightful cocktail is best enjoyed during the golden hour, basking in the sun’s warmth with great company. The recipe is straightforward and can be prepared without a cocktail shaker; all you need is a long spoon, your preferred Havana Club rum, and a few additional ingredients.

To make the golden mojito, mix 40ml of Havana Club Añejo Especial rum, 20ml of fresh lime juice, two tablespoons of white sugar, and eight fresh mint leaves in your chosen glass. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the mint leaves release their aromatic essence. Fill the glass with ice cubes, add 80ml of soda water, and stir again. Garnish with a mint sprig and enjoy this refreshing drink alone or in the company of friends and family.
