A man and his daughter have been sentenced to prison for assaulting and stabbing a man whom they threw from a first-floor window. John McGinley, aged 58, and Stacey McGinley, aged 39, initiated the attack on Duncan Craig in Glasgow’s east end over an alleged debt owed to Stacey by the victim.
The brutal incident unfolded when Mr. Craig was shoved out of the window and then subjected to further physical abuse, including being stripped, choked, and stabbed. Fortunately, another woman present at the flat managed to seek help for him, leading to his rescue by authorities.
Both John and Stacey McGinley confessed to their violent actions in the High Court in Glasgow. John received a seven-and-a-half-year prison sentence, while Stacey was sentenced to six-and-a-half years. The judge admonished them, highlighting the seriousness of their actions and the potential for a murder charge.
The assault occurred on February 15, 2025, following a dispute over money owed by Mr. Craig to Stacey. The altercation escalated, leading to a sustained period of abuse where Mr. Craig endured multiple assaults, including being struck with knives by John McGinley and physically assaulted by both perpetrators.
Mr. Craig suffered severe injuries, including a hip fracture, a dislocated shoulder, missing teeth, and various marks from the violent ordeal. The McGinleys were arrested after firearms officers intervened, and Mr. Craig was taken to the hospital for treatment.
In court, John McGinley pleaded guilty to attempted murder, while Stacey admitted to assaulting the victim with severe injuries and endangering his life. The pair also faced charges of abduction and attempted extortion against Mr. Craig.
Both defendants have been prohibited from contacting or approaching the victim indefinitely. Defense lawyers for the McGinleys provided explanations for their clients’ actions, emphasizing remorse and accepting responsibility for the serious consequences of their behavior.
