Two individuals have tragically lost their lives following a shooting incident at a shopping center in the United States, where a total of three people were shot. The police have issued a warning to the public to steer clear of the area.
The distressing event unfolded at the bustling Fairlane Town Center mall in Dearborn, Michigan, as families were busy shopping ahead of the July 4 holiday weekend. Video footage captured people in panic as gunshots rang out, prompting the closure of store shutters.
Responding swiftly, emergency services and law enforcement personnel converged on the scene, cordoning off the mall near Evergreen Road and Michigan Avenue around 2 pm. The Dearborn Police Department emphasized that the situation is under active investigation, urging residents and visitors to avoid the vicinity to allow officers to secure the area and investigators to carry out their work.
Mayor Abdullah Hammoud of Dearborn echoed the plea, urging the public to stay away from Fairlane Mall while authorities manage the situation. Witnesses, including Gabrielle, a store owner at the mall, described the chaos as gunshots echoed through the premises, prompting lockdown procedures.
Another witness, who was at the mall with her daughter, expressed sadness over the incident, particularly for families with children who witnessed the unfolding events. Weston Fantroy, a shopper present during the incident, recounted hearing multiple gunshots and witnessing a wave of panic, prompting him to flee the premises.
Reports indicate that the shooting may have been targeted, with two individuals directly hit and a bystander who intervened to help one of the victims also becoming a casualty.
