“Europe Braces for Record-Breaking Heatwave”

A scorching heatwave is set to greet tourists visiting popular European destinations in the upcoming days, potentially breaking records on the continent. Temperatures have already soared into the mid-40s in Spain, France, and Italy. Even the UK is experiencing its third heatwave of the year.

According to the GFS weather model, Europe could witness temperatures well above the average for this time of year next week. Thursday could see highs of 44C in southern Spain, 42C in Catalonia, and 44C in Sicily. Friday is expected to be even hotter, with potential highs of 48C in Andalusia, setting a new record for Spain.

Seville, a favored spot for British tourists, might reach temperatures between 46C and 47C next week as per the GFS model. This follows tragic wildfires that ravaged parts of Spain last week, resulting in the loss of 13 lives, including seven British nationals.

Several weather alerts have been issued in Spain, with regions like Andalusia and Aragon facing orange and yellow warnings due to high temperatures. The Balearic Islands and Murcia are also under caution. Experts predict that temperatures could soon hit 50C on the continent.

Professor Bill McGuire from UCL has warned that temperatures exceeding 50C could be a reality either later this summer or next year, particularly with the impact of the strong El Niño in the Pacific.
