An elderly British man tragically passed away when his vehicle caught fire in Cyprus. The incident occurred in Avgorou, a region in the southwestern part of the country, after the car became stuck in mud.
The 88-year-old driver, accompanied by his dog and a caregiver, was en route to an animal shelter when they took a wrong turn onto a dirt track. In an attempt to free the car, sparks from the vehicle ignited dry reeds nearby, leading to a swift spread of flames that engulfed the car on Saturday.
Although the caregiver managed to escape and advised the man to leave the vehicle, he instructed her to seek help. After the fire was extinguished, the man’s body was discovered beside the car, suggesting he had tried to escape the fire. Tragically, the man’s dog also perished in the blaze.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. A post-mortem examination confirmed that the man died from burns. The man resided in Pachna, a village in southern Cyprus, as reported by Cyprus Mail.
