“Eight Men Admit to Violent Disorder in Nowak Protest”

Four additional men have confessed to charges of violent disorder related to the protest following Henry Nowak’s murder. Andrew Summerhayes, aged 38, Dillon Crawford, aged 29, Harry Varney, aged 34, and Taylor Grundy, aged 22, all pleaded guilty during their appearance at Southampton Magistrates Court on Saturday. Summerhayes also admitted to two counts of possessing an offensive weapon in a public area.

According to prosecutor Robert Salame, Summerhayes allegedly threw items such as bins at police officers, while Crawford used large objects like bins and chairs against the officers. Varney reportedly resisted police instructions, pushing against their shields, and Grundy was seen pushing a large industrial bin towards riot police.

These four individuals were part of a group that turned violent towards riot police officers who were preventing them from reaching the residence of Henry’s killer, Vickrum Digwa, 23, on Tuesday night. The protest followed the release of footage showing the 18-year-old victim handcuffed as he lay dying, with officers neglecting his pleas for help after being stabbed and struggling to breathe.

Tragically, Henry had sustained fatal knife wounds inflicted by Digwa, who falsely claimed to have been the victim of a racist attack and denied harming the student. The defendants confirmed their personal details before being remanded in custody to appear at Southampton Crown Court on Wednesday.

In a related development, four other men have admitted guilt, bringing the total number charged in connection with the protest to eleven. Connor Bishop, who threw a traffic cone at police officers, faced charges of violent disorder after a video captured him hurling the cone at retreating officers. Noah Etherington, 18, confessed to violent disorder by throwing a brick at the police, while Reece Robinson, 21, acknowledged throwing objects at officers to incite disorder. Daniel Frost, 44, admitted to violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon, also revealing that he used a dog lead wrapped around his knuckles to provoke officers.

Additionally, Kevin Reeves, 31, and Andrew Riddett, 38, did not enter a plea for charges of violent disorder. Reeves was accused of using large objects, including a traffic cone, to attack police officers and encouraging others to do the same. Riddett faced allegations of spitting at an officer and inciting violence against law enforcement. Both were remanded in custody for their appearance at Southampton Crown Court.

Another individual, Matt Styler, pleaded not guilty to assaulting an emergency worker during the unrest. The court heard that the 50-year-old military veteran allegedly kicked a police sergeant after being instructed to move from a wall. Styler, from Gosport, Hants, was detained pending further court proceedings. Authorities are reviewing protest videos, hinting at more arrests in the future.
