Two individuals, including a dismissed police superintendent, are facing charges in connection with an investment fraud amounting to £720,000.
Syed Hussain, aged 54, a previous senior official at West Midlands Police, is alleged to have committed fraud and engaged in the transfer of illicit funds. Alongside Hussain, Farah Ullah, aged 43, has been accused of fraud and two instances of transferring criminal proceeds.
The decision to press criminal charges was made by the Crown Prosecution Service following claims from a woman who asserted that she had sent a significant sum of money to the accused individuals, under the impression that she would receive a substantial return. The alleged offenses occurred between November 2022 and April 2023.
Hussain, residing in Barking, Essex, was terminated from his position within the police force. Ullah, living in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on July 1.
Malcolm McHaffie, who heads the Crown Prosecution Service’s Special Crime Division, stated: “Charges of fraud and transferring criminal property have been brought against Farah Ullah, 43, and Syed Hussain, 54, in connection with alleged offenses taking place between November 2022 and April 2023.
“Our prosecutors have diligently gathered sufficient evidence to proceed with court proceedings and have deemed it necessary to pursue criminal charges in the interest of the public. Collaboration with the Metropolitan Police Service has been integral to the investigation process.
“It is imperative to remember that legal proceedings against these defendants are ongoing, and they are entitled to a fair trial. It is crucial to refrain from any reporting, commentary, or dissemination of information online that could potentially bias these proceedings.”
