One individual has been hospitalized following a crane collapse at an English port. Emergency teams from various services rushed to the scene at the Port of Tyne in South Shields, Tyne and Wear. The incident, involving a dockside crane, occurred this afternoon around 1:02 pm.
Responding to the situation after one person sustained injuries, teams from North East Ambulance Service and the Great North Air Ambulance were dispatched. A representative from the North East Ambulance Service stated that they received a call reporting an injury at the Port of Tyne in South Shields at 1:02 pm on July 19.
“We deployed three ambulances, two clinical team leaders, a duty officer, and three vehicles from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), with support from the Great North Air Ambulance Service. The injured individual was transported to the Royal Victoria Infirmary,” the spokesperson mentioned.
A HART vehicle remains at the location on standby to assist the fire service. Images from the scene depict damage to a crane and several containers on a BG Freight Line vessel.
Mike, the operator of the YouTube channel Urbex Drone View, learned about the incident online and observed the aftermath, as reported by ChronicleLive. He witnessed the emergency services upon approaching the scene from the north of the River Tyne.
Sharing his experience, Mike stated, “Upon reaching the north side to capture drone footage, I was confronted with the twisted wreckage of the dockside crane, underscoring the magnitude of the incident. Beyond a row of emergency vehicles, I noticed that multiple cargo containers on the BG Orange had shifted from their original positions, as evident in the accompanying photos.”
Expressing his shock, Mike added, “It was truly distressing to witness such a scene. The scale of the emergency response indicated a significant event. There were numerous emergency vehicles present, including fire engines, ambulances, and reportedly two air ambulances.”
Reflecting on the severity of the damage, he remarked, “Seeing the extent of the destruction emphasized the gravity of the incident. It is hard to fathom the ordeal faced by those working at the dock or onboard the vessel at that moment.”
He concluded by stating, “My thoughts are with all those affected and their families, and I sincerely hope for their safety and the support they require.”
