A young child is in critical condition after ingesting cocaine, prompting swift action from emergency responders when the two-year-old was found struggling to breathe. Authorities in New Jersey, USA, have apprehended a 39-year-old man named Alexander T. Moles on charges of endangering a child following an incident on July 20 involving the distressed toddler. Upon arrival, emergency personnel discovered that Moles had been en route to the hospital, driving the child to the emergency room due to breathing difficulties. Paramedics administered two doses of Naloxone nasal spray, also known as NARCAN, to the child, which led to a positive response. NARCAN is a medication used to counter the effects of opioids in the body.
Subsequently, the toddler was transferred to Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional for further medical evaluation, with subsequent blood tests confirming the presence of cocaine in the child’s system. During a search authorized by a judge at Moles’s Airbnb, law enforcement officers uncovered a pill, tinfoil packets labeled “tapentadol hydrochloride,” a plastic bag containing a white powder, and multiple plastic straws.
In response to the incident, a collaborative investigation was launched by the Wildwood Police Department and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit. A spokesperson stated that Moles was staying at a residence in Wildwood, New Jersey, when the child fell ill.
Following the initial inquiry, Moles was arrested on July 21, 2026, and charged with various offenses, including endangering the welfare of a child, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of prescription drugs. The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office warned that individuals convicted of second-degree crimes could face imprisonment ranging from five to ten years, while third-degree offenses carry a possible sentence of three to five years in the New Jersey State Prison. Moles, aged 39, was taken into custody at the Cape May County Correctional Facility but was released on bail under specified conditions three days later.
