Just eleven minutes before 9 p.m. local time, the audience erupted into screams as Céline Dion graced the stage in a Paris suburb for her first concert in six years.
The 58-year-old singer kicked off the show at Europe’s largest indoor concert venue with a moving performance of her 1998 hit, On Ne Change Pas, pausing midway as tears welled up in her eyes.
In a pleated black gown adorned with a dazzling necklace, Dion addressed the crowd in Nanterre, admitting, “I promised not to cry.”
“Tonight, I want to sing for you, for me, for life,” she declared.
Thousands of dedicated fans filled Plenitude Arena on Saturday to witness Dion’s comeback, marking the start of her sold-out Paris residency following a hiatus due to a rare neurological disorder.
“I’ve already cried three times,” shared Melanie McGill, a fan from Los Angeles seated in the upper level.
Performing 26 songs from her repertoire spanning over two hours, Dion brought back iconic 1990s tracks like My Heart Will Go On, All By Myself, and It’s All Coming Back to Me Now. Despite a hiccup at the start of The Chase, she paused and sought the crowd’s approval for a restart.
“Finally. It’s amazing we’re all together. I made a promise to come back and be back on stage,” expressed the songstress early in the concert.
She continued, “Thank you so much for your support, your patience, and, if I may say so, I am everything I am because you loved me,” quoting her own 1996 power ballad.
Closing with S’il Suffisait d’Aimer, a critically acclaimed single from her bestselling French album of the same name, Dion left the audience in awe.
