A British couple, Craig and Lindsay Foreman, have lost their appeal against espionage convictions in Iran, resulting in a 10-year jail sentence. The Foremans were initially arrested in January 2025 during a global motorcycle journey through Iran. Despite denying the charges, their family expressed concerns over the lack of transparency in the legal process, as the couple was not allowed to participate in their appeal hearing.
The situation has escalated with Mr. Foreman on a hunger strike for 25 days and Mrs. Foreman for 16 days, further exacerbated by the severed communication between them enforced by Iranian authorities. The family shared their frustration with the lack of clarity on the next legal steps and the government’s limited action to secure the couple’s release.
The Foreign Office has issued a warning advising against travel to Iran for British and British-Iranian nationals due to the high risk of arrest, interrogation, or detention. The UK government previously condemned the Foremans’ sentence as unjustifiable and appalling. The family continues to advocate for increased diplomatic efforts to shift the situation in their favor.
