Attendees of a popular seaside air show have been advised against feeding seagulls to prevent bird strikes. The Blackpool Air Show, which drew over 350,000 spectators last year, is set to return this weekend featuring a display of military and civilian aircraft over the seafront. However, visitors have been cautioned about the potential danger of leaving food or feeding seagulls, as gatherings of gulls pose a threat to aircraft, particularly during low-level flying demonstrations.
To mitigate risks, event-goers are requested to properly dispose of any rubbish or uneaten food and refrain from feeding the birds. Jim Johnson, the operations, safety, and compliance manager at Blackpool Airport, expressed enthusiasm for the show and urged cooperation in maintaining safety by limiting food availability to reduce the gull population near the airport.
The Blackpool Air Show, scheduled for August 8 to August 9, will showcase RAF Typhoons, a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and the Red Devils. Highlighting some of the world’s best military and civilian aircraft, the event promises an impressive lineup of flying machines and skilled pilots. Participants are encouraged to support a safe environment for pilots and spectators by adhering to the guidelines.
