These DIY retreats, crafted by enthusiastic “sheddies” nationwide, feature a classic countryside pub and two impressive sports bars equipped with various games like pool, darts, table tennis, and more.
The top contenders, selected from over one thousand entries, are now in a tight competition to claim the coveted prize. Among them is Paul Brimecome, presenting his remarkable creation named The Pampered Chicken, meticulously constructed from recycled materials. Spanning 9.6m by 4.8m, this sports enthusiast’s haven boasts a pool table, a large darts setup, retro arcade games, and a fruit machine, all set in a vibrant social space.
Adam Cockroft, hailing from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, transformed his outbuilding into The Mucky Pub, a traditional-themed establishment adorned with a games room featuring pool, air hockey, table tennis, shuffleboard, table football, and arcade machines. Reflecting on the journey, Adam shared how this conversion project turned a family saying into a cherished reality, offering memorable evenings with loved ones.
Tina and Rich Hibbs from Rugeley, Staffordshire, present Hibbys, a bar adorned with Wolverhampton Wanderers FC memorabilia and a welcoming outdoor play area and beer garden. Starting as a peaceful spot for watching football and displaying sports collectibles, Hibbys has evolved into a versatile venue for hosting gatherings and special events, catering to both young and old with its array of refreshments and entertainment options.
Organized by Twofatblokes.co.uk, the annual Pub Shed of The Year competition awards winners with £500 worth of prizes. With the surge in popularity of backyard pubs, estimated to exceed two million across Britain following the pandemic era, the competition’s organizer, Ashley Turner, acknowledges the growing challenge in judging the exceptional entries each year.
