AI-Powered Dating: Boost Confidence with Hinge’s Feature

Young adults in their 20s who are single could utilize artificial intelligence (AI) to initiate conversations on dating apps if they lack the confidence to make the first move, according to recent statements.

The CEO of the dating app Hinge, Jackie Jantos, mentioned that individuals seeking love often struggle with self-assurance in putting themselves out there. She emphasized that the AI feature on the app, which provides conversation starters, is not about scripting messages but about assisting users in showcasing their personalities.

Despite concerns from relationship experts about dating app fatigue and a shift towards more traditional in-person meetings, Hinge has seen a continuous increase in its user base in the UK.

Established in 2012 and under the ownership of Match Group, the parent company of Tinder and Match.com, Hinge’s focus revolves around fostering lasting relationships, as indicated by its slogan “designed to be deleted,” challenging the notion of users remaining on the platform indefinitely.

While Tinder remains the most popular dating app, Hinge has been steadily gaining traction over the past few years, with Bumble and Grindr following closely. The number of UK adults using Hinge has risen to 1.5 million, surpassing Tinder’s declining audience figures, according to Ipsos iris data.

Hinge offers a free version with premium tiers available for £24.99 per month or £74.99 for six months, emphasizing transparency in its use of AI to enhance the dating experience for users.

The app utilizes AI technology to suggest potential matches based on user preferences such as age, distance, and interests, continuously refining its predictions as it learns more about the user. Optional AI features are also provided to help users improve their profiles.

Prompting users with simple questions like recommendations for local coffee shops or movie selections, Hinge aims to facilitate engaging conversations and combat the impact of reduced in-person interactions among Gen Z users, who constitute a significant portion of the app’s active user base.

Jackie Jantos highlighted the shift towards digital experiences and the resulting loneliness among Gen Z individuals in the UK, exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic’s disruption of social interactions during formative years.

While Hinge’s AI tools provide profile feedback and conversation starters, Jantos emphasized that these features are intended to boost user confidence rather than replace genuine interactions, aiming to enhance the overall dating experience.
