An Israeli airstrike in the central Gaza Strip on Sunday resulted in the deaths of two Palestinians, including a three-year-old child, as confirmed by health officials. The strike, which occurred near a bakery in Deir al-Balah, claimed the lives of Tayyem Hamdan, 3, and Hussam Nusair, as well as causing injuries to several others.
The Israeli military stated that the attack was targeting and eliminating a Hamas militant, with Nusair allegedly involved in previous attacks against Israeli forces and civilians. Hamas has not yet responded to these allegations made by the military.
Despite a ceasefire backed by the U.S. last October that brought a halt to major conflicts in the region, Israeli military actions have continued, citing the need to prevent attacks by Hamas and other Gaza militants. Hamas has accused Israel of breaching the ceasefire terms and obstructing U.S. President Donald Trump’s broader plan to resolve the Gaza conflict, which includes Israeli withdrawals and Hamas disarmament.
Since the ceasefire went into effect last October, over 1,300 Palestinians have lost their lives in Gaza, according to health officials in the region. In contrast, the Israeli military reports that four Israeli soldiers have been killed during the same period.
