Canada’s Ambassador to the United States Mark Wiseman participated in the traditional pork chop flip and interacted with the Iowa Pork Queen, while Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald and other officials also attended. The discussions were crucial this year as the looming threat of hefty tariffs by U.S. President Donald Trump on Canadian products intensified.
Manitoba Pork’s exports to the United States, especially Iowa, are substantial, emphasizing the necessity of nurturing this trade relationship. The delegation’s on-the-ground diplomacy at the state level aimed to garner support for Canada beyond the federal negotiations in Washington.
