A man tragically passed away following an assault by a group of youths, some as young as 12, who had allegedly stolen items from a store. Van Viet Truong, a 60-year-old grocery shop owner, intervened to help a colleague during a robbery in Melbourne, Australia. The incident escalated into a confrontation on Hampshire Road, resulting in Truong sustaining severe head injuries.
Despite medical efforts, Truong succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday. Five juveniles, aged between 12 and 15, have been charged with various offenses related to the incident. While one of the boys was cleared of charges, police are considering elevating the charges against the remaining youths in light of Truong’s death.
Magistrate Robyn Hamilton anticipates the charges will be upgraded due to the severity of Truong’s injuries. The court proceedings have seen emotional pleas from family members, with one mother requesting bail for her son. However, concerns over potential risks and mental well-being led to the denial of bail requests for some of the accused individuals.

Victorian Premier Ben Carroll condemned the attack, labeling it as unacceptable and expressing support for tougher measures against violent crimes.
