At least six individuals lost their lives and numerous others sustained injuries following a collision involving a tourist shuttle bus in central Italy. The incident occurred on the Terni-Rieti road, close to the boundary of the Umbria and Lazio regions, when the bus crashed head-on into a camper van and two cars on Sunday evening, as reported by Umbria regional authorities.
Stefania Proietti, the regional president, mentioned that out of the 34 injured individuals, six were in critical condition, and two were receiving treatment for severe injuries, as indicated by Italian news agency ANSA. The shuttle bus was en route to the Marmore Falls, an ancient Roman waterfall near Terni, at the time of the accident.
Proietti characterized the collision as a “catastrophic” mass-casualty event, leading to the immediate activation of the regional emergency protocol upon receiving the initial distress call. The injured were swiftly transported to hospitals in Terni, Perugia, Spoleto, Foligno, and Rieti for medical care.
