A driver previously banned from driving was caught behind the wheel and made light of having accumulated 59 penalty points when pulled over by law enforcement officers. Bodycam footage from the police revealed that Iain Ashmore, 45, was driving a white Ford Transit Connect on July 23 despite being prohibited from driving.
Initially, Ashmore complained about being frequently stopped by the police and accused them of unfairly singling him out. He even threatened to file a formal complaint after being stopped three times in one month. However, when PC Mark Solder checked his driving record, he informed Ashmore that he had 59 penalty points. In a sarcastic response, Ashmore remarked, “Oh, has it gone down now has it?”
When asked how he managed to retain his license with 61 points, Ashmore jokingly replied, “Because I’m a very good person.” Despite acknowledging the high cost of his insurance, he dismissed it as “just a pretty penny,” claiming it was still more affordable than insurance for lorry drivers.
At Lincoln Magistrates’ Court, Ashmore, residing in Witham St Hughes, Lincolnshire, admitted to driving the white Ford Transit Connect while disqualified on multiple occasions and committing various driving offenses. Consequently, he received an eight-week suspended prison sentence, a driving ban until July 2027, and was ordered to pay court fees and a surcharge.
PC Solder from Lincolnshire Police emphasized the seriousness of Ashmore’s actions, stating, “This man persisted in driving despite being banned and now faces disqualification until July 2027 with 59 points on his license. Driving is a privilege that requires responsibility, costs, and compliance, which most road users understand and adhere to. His actions pose a risk to road safety and other law-abiding drivers.”
