Tomorrow, temperatures could reach up to 36C as heatwave conditions make a comeback in certain areas of the UK. This upcoming hot spell will mark the fourth heatwave of the year, although it is projected to be less extensive than the previous three.
The Met Office forecasts that today will see “hot” conditions in the south-east, with temperatures expected to hit 29-30C across many areas. However, the warmest weather is anticipated for tomorrow. The GFS model indicates potential highs of 36C in parts of East Anglia and the south-east, with temperatures around 35C in much of eastern and south-eastern England.
In the Midlands, temperatures are likely to reach 32-33C, with a possibility of 31C in Yorkshire. Wales may experience highs of 25C, while Northern Ireland and Scotland are expected to be cooler. Temperature anomaly maps for tomorrow highlight central, eastern, and southern England in dark red, indicating temperatures significantly above the seasonal average.
According to the GFS model, 11 English counties could see temperatures surpass 35C. An official heatwave is declared after three consecutive days of temperatures meeting or exceeding the heatwave threshold, which varies from 28C in London to 25C in regions further from the south-east.
The Met Office predicts that this week’s hot weather will be brief and not widespread across the entire UK. Temperatures are forecasted to decrease heading into the weekend. By Friday, temperatures are expected to align closer to average for most of the UK, with slightly below average temperatures in the far north.
High pressure influencing conditions may keep the far south slightly warmer, although temperatures are anticipated to be notably lower than midweek highs.
