A well-known pub chain in the UK has revealed plans to shut down all 106 of its locations in the upcoming weeks. Beefeater, recognized for its aged steaks and mixed grills, has officially announced its exit from the pub-restaurant sector on September 10.
The closures are part of a significant restructuring initiative by Whitbread, the owner, aimed at saving £250 million. This plan includes the closure of all remaining Beefeater and Brewers Fayre establishments, putting approximately 3,800 jobs at risk.
Customers were informed of the closures through a letter sent to Beefeater reward club members, as reported by the Southend Echo. The letter stated the closure date as Thursday, September 10, 2026, for all Beefeater locations in the UK.
Dominic Paul, the CEO of Whitbread, cited substantial cost escalations as the driving force behind the company’s decision to undergo this overhaul. A spokesperson for the company expressed hopes of retaining a significant number of affected employees and exploring options to redeploy impacted colleagues, according to The Sun.
Closure dates for Brewers Fayre and Bar + Block establishments have not been finalized yet.
