A leopard caused panic when it entered a shop in India and attacked a worker. The wild animal strayed from a nearby forest into the building in Todaraisingh, Rajasthan state, last Monday. Co-workers were terrified as CCTV footage captured the moment the leopard leaped on a man.
The worker struggled to free himself as the leopard pinned him down. After a brief struggle, he managed to shake off the big cat and escape by climbing over a table. The leopard roamed inside the store, knocking over bottles until authorities arrived.
Reports indicate that the leopard injured three people in the area before being tranquilized and removed after almost five hours. The leopard, believed to be a male aged between four and five, first attacked a forest volunteer, Rakesh Mali, who suffered leg injuries. Another victim, Fateh Lal Koli, was sitting outside the liquor store and sustained injuries. Sanjay Gurjar, seen in the CCTV footage, escaped with injuries to his nose, shoulder, and hands.
Koli and Gurjar secured the shop by pulling down the shutter, trapping the leopard inside. Mali received first aid at the scene, while the injured workers were taken to a medical center. Authorities are investigating how the leopard strayed into the urban area from the surrounding forest, known for its significant leopard population.
Leopards are apex predators and typically avoid human contact unless provoked or threatened. They are considered highly dangerous but are known to be deadly when cornered. Adult males can weigh up to 90kg, have impressive speed and jumping abilities, making them formidable predators in the wild.
