A former police officer has been revealed as a rapist who committed a series of sexual assaults and attempted murders against women spanning over at least 14 years. PC Alan Greer, known as “Police Scotland’s Wayne Couzens,” tragically took his own life in May after being suspended pending an investigation into his crimes.
An investigation by BBC Disclosure has uncovered eight additional victims, including five sex workers, who were targeted by Greer while he was off duty. Drawing parallels, a source involved in the investigation likened this case to the notorious Wayne Couzens incident, where Couzens, a Metropolitan Police officer, kidnapped, raped, and murdered Sarah Everard in 2021.
Greer’s criminal activities came to light in late 2025 when a woman reported a rape dating back to 2012, leading to an inquiry by Police Scotland’s anti-corruption unit. Detectives found that Greer had accessed the case file without justification, and further evidence emerged when he searched police systems regarding another incident involving a sex worker in February of the same year.
Subsequently, Greer was apprehended in April on suspicion of the 2012 rape. A search of his residence yielded multiple electronic devices that exposed the extent of his offenses. Following Greer’s death, Police Scotland disclosed that he was under investigation at the time, shedding light on his hidden criminal activities that had remained unknown to his family and colleagues.
Assistant Chief Constable Lynn Ratcliff condemned Greer’s actions, emphasizing the abuse of power and expressing shock at the revelations. While acknowledging the bravery of one victim who came forward, leading to the identification of additional victims, Ratcliff stressed the importance of reporting any potential encounters with Greer.
Regarding comparisons to Wayne Couzens, Ratcliff dismissed the notion of overlooked warning signs and highlighted the enhanced vetting procedures in place today compared to when Greer joined the force in 2009. She encouraged anyone who suspects they may have been victimized by Greer to step forward as more victims are anticipated to emerge.
