Three individuals tragically fell to their deaths from a 213ft-tall tourist attraction in Germany. The incident occurred at the Harz Tower in Altenau, located in the Goslar district of Lower Saxony. Despite the efforts of emergency services, two men and a woman succumbed to their injuries around 4.40pm.
Authorities have cordoned off the area and put up privacy screens as they investigate the cause of the accident. Reports from local media suggest that the victims were two adults and a child. The police have stated that, at this point, they do not suspect any third-party negligence.
The tower, managed by Harzturm GmbH, remains closed following the tragic event. Situated in Torfhaus, the highest village in the Harz Mountains of Germany, the tower is renowned as the tallest observation tower in the country since its opening to the public in 2024. Constructed from a blend of wood and steel, the tower, which cost approximately €10 million to build and received state funding, includes a glass-floored skywalk at a height of about 45m.
Visitors can access the top of the tower either by stairs or a lift and enjoy a 110m slide for a thrilling descent. The company has yet to comment on the incident.
