“Tragic Loss: Boy, 11, Fatally Struck Crossing Road”

An 11-year-old boy tragically lost his life after attempting to cross the road to reach his mother, resulting in a fatal collision with oncoming traffic. Seth Fulton, 11, was riding his bicycle on the pavement along Nottingham Road in Chaddesden, Derby, on April 17 when he spotted his mother on the opposite side. Acting on impulse, he tried to cross the road, but was struck by a bus which propelled him into the path of a VW Polo. Seth succumbed to his injuries later that day at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Following an inquest conducted by Susan Evans, the coroner for Derby and Derbyshire, it was determined that Seth’s decision to cross the road was unsafe. The coroner stated that both the driver of the VW Polo and the bus driver did not have sufficient time to avoid the tragic accident. The official cause of Seth’s death was recorded as a traumatic head injury resulting from a road traffic collision.

In an emotional statement released by Derbyshire Police after the incident, Seth’s parents described him as a vibrant and adventurous young boy who cherished life, nature, and exploration. They fondly remembered him as a caring, curious, and sociable individual with a passion for skateboarding, BMX riding, and making people laugh with his humor and dancing. Seth’s infectious personality left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered, and he was deeply loved as a son, brother, grandson, and nephew.
