“Gunman wielding musket-like weapon wounded by German police”

A man believed to be the gunman who fired shots outside a supermarket using what was described as a “musket-like” weapon has been wounded by police in Germany. The incident occurred in the Friedrichstadt district of Dresden early this morning, prompting a swift response from armed officers following reports of the armed individual.

The 41-year-old suspect reportedly brandished a musket-like weapon and uttered a religious phrase before engaging in a gunfire exchange with law enforcement. During the arrest, the suspect shot at police officers, leading to a response where the officers returned fire, injuring the suspect. Fortunately, no officers or bystanders were harmed during the confrontation.

Following the incident, the wounded suspect was transported to a hospital for treatment and is currently facing charges related to making threats and violating firearm laws. Images from the scene depicted the police securing the area, with the injured man being attended to in an ambulance.

Authorities highlighted that the suspect was armed with a musket-like weapon rather than a conventional firearm, which he then used against the officers. Witnesses recalled the suspect shouting a religious phrase before being wounded, with visible signs of blood at the site afterward.

As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities will assess the officers’ response and the actions taken to de-escalate the situation, including determining the number of shots fired at the suspect and verifying the functionality of the suspect’s weapon. A police cordon remains in place around the supermarket, as the motive behind the incident and whether the shop was specifically targeted remain unclear.
