A father from Britain is facing charges of negligence in connection with the tragic death of his three-year-old son, who fell from a fourth-floor hotel window in Chloraka, Paphos.
According to reports, the child was playing with his father before the fatal fall. Emergency services responded to the scene at approximately 6:40 pm on July 12 but found the boy unresponsive upon arrival. He was rushed to Paphos General Hospital, where medical staff pronounced him deceased. Subsequently, the 37-year-old father was taken into custody following the incident.
The grieving family, accompanied by a five-year-old girl, had just begun their holiday that day. The heartbreaking event unfolded in front of the boy’s grandfather as they were heading downstairs for dinner.
The father appeared in court on Monday morning in Paphos, where authorities requested an eight-day remand to aid ongoing investigations. Reports from local media suggest that the father broke down in tears during the court proceedings, causing a pause in the session.
Michalis Nikolaou, the Assistant Police Director of Operations in Paphos, confirmed that the father is facing charges of causing death through a reckless or dangerous act, as well as neglect of duty as the family head and neglect of responsibility for the child in his care.
The UK Foreign Office informed The Sun that they are providing assistance to the British family coping with the loss in Cyprus and maintaining communication with local authorities.
