“Duchess of Sussex Skips Invictus Event Amid Security Concerns”

The Duchess of Sussex has arrived in the UK for the first time in four years, but chose not to attend an official event for Prince Harry’s cherished Invictus Games. Meghan, aged 44, was scheduled to accompany Harry to the one-year countdown celebration at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre. However, despite landing in the UK with their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, she did not appear at the morning event.

According to a source close to the couple, security concerns arose as the family was denied police protection, leading to the Duchess missing the event. It is understood that Meghan and the children remained at Althorp in Northants, owned by Harry’s uncle Earl Spencer and the resting place of his late mother, Princess Diana.

This setback follows Harry’s recent legal defeat against Associated Newspapers and his denial to stay at Buckingham Palace. At the NEC, Harry was supported by a group including former defence minister Al Carns and ex-Invictus competitor turned TV presenter JJ Chalmers.

During the event, Mr. Carns commented on the tight security and refrained from discussing the Duchess’s absence, emphasizing Harry’s valuable role in championing the Invictus cause. Looking ahead to the future, Mr. Carns expressed optimism about potential attendance by the Duchess at the next year’s event.

Despite the absence of Meghan, Harry enthusiastically participated in showcasing new events for the upcoming Invictus Games, engaging in various sports activities. He interacted with and cheered on fellow veterans, displaying his commitment to the Invictus community.

In a concluding speech, Harry humorously reflected on the passage of time since the inaugural Invictus Games in 2014. He expressed gratitude to the attendees for their continuous support and loyalty to the Invictus community.

The upcoming Invictus Games in Birmingham will host competitors from 25 nations in adaptive events, offering a platform for wounded service personnel and veterans to rebuild through sport. Meghan is anticipated to participate in private family events during her visit, away from public engagements, including a potential reunion with King Charles and his grandchildren. Relations between Harry and the King have reportedly been strained since Harry’s decision to step back from royal duties in 2020.

Despite the challenges, Harry remains dedicated to the Invictus cause, emphasizing the importance of community support and family pride in his TV interview. The event showcased Harry’s resilience and commitment to honoring the spirit of the Invictus Games.
