“Norwegian Teen Killed in Costa del Sol Hit-and-Run”

A 17-year-old tourist tragically lost her life in a suspected hit-and-run incident on the Costa del Sol after cheering on her national team in the World Cup. Nikoline Piwoni Høie was struck by a vehicle, believed to be a lorry, on a dual carriageway in the early hours of Monday.

The incident took place on the A-7 motorway near La Cala de Mijas, approximately 20 miles from Marbella in southern Spain. The driver fled the scene after the collision.

Nikoline was reported missing after a night out with friends at the Funky Buddha nightclub in Puerto Banús. She had been celebrating Norway’s victory over Brazil in the World Cup with fellow Norwegians.

Following the celebration, she took transportation to the A-7 where the tragic accident occurred. Emergency services were alerted around 5:20 am, but Nikoline could not be saved.

Nikoline had been vacationing in the Costa del Sol since June 19 and was scheduled to return to Norway on the same day.

Authorities are treating the teen’s death as a hit-and-run, with investigations ongoing to identify the vehicle and driver involved. No arrests have been made so far.

Family spokesperson Finn Greve-Isdahl expressed the deep sorrow felt by Nikoline’s extended family and thanked the Arendal community for their support.

Nikoline’s stepmother described her anticipation of returning home as she lamented the unfairness of the situation. Arendal’s acting mayor, Inger Brokka de Ruiter, referred to the incident as deeply tragic and mentioned the local crisis team’s support for affected individuals.

The Norwegian Foreign Ministry has been notified, and the embassy stands ready to provide assistance as needed. The investigation into the incident continues.
