A tragedy unfolded in south London as a family of three tragically fell from a residential tower block, leading to their untimely deaths. The incident occurred at the Uncle residential tower on Churchyard Row in Elephant and Castle, where Aditi Vijay Paralkar, 46, a real estate property developer, Rakesh Narayan Pai, 47, and their nine-year-old son Sid Rene Pai-Paralkar lost their lives on May 27.
According to Detective Sergeant Simon Monga of the Metropolitan Police, the family fell from a height onto another building, with the London Fire Brigade later recovering their bodies. During the inquest, assistant coroner Michelle Haste revealed that Ms. Paralkar and Mr. Pai succumbed to multiple injuries, while the cause of Sid’s death is still under investigation.
Emergency services responded to the incident at 7:29 am after receiving reports of the fall. Sadly, all three individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. The formal identification of the family was completed using their passports found at their residence.
The investigation into the tragic event is ongoing, with authorities awaiting the results of pathology and forensic examinations to determine the sequence of events that led to the fatal fall. It is estimated that a comprehensive report on Sid’s death will take at least six months to complete, leading to the adjournment of the inquest until the conclusion of the police inquiry.
Bermondsey and Old Southwark MP Neil Coyle informed residents that the police are not seeking any other individuals in connection with the incident. He shared that the family resided on the 36th floor of the 45-storey tower block, having recently moved to the UK, and that Sid faced significant health challenges, being diagnosed with kidney disease and receiving homeschooling.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the three fatalities resulted from a fall from height at the Elephant and Castle location. The authorities are treating the deaths as unexpected, with efforts underway to formally identify the deceased and provide support to their next-of-kin during this difficult time.
