“England World Cup Fan Missing En Route to USA”

An England supporter has gone missing while en route to the United States for the World Cup, prompting his family to issue a plea for assistance in locating him. Michael Hewitt, also known as “Little Mick” among his acquaintances, departed from Leeds on June 20 to travel across the Atlantic to Boston to watch the Three Lions play. However, communication with him was abruptly lost during a layover in Barcelona, Spain.

According to his family, Mr. Hewitt never reached his intended destination in America. His brother, Mike Wakefield, disclosed that the last contact with Michael was made during his stopover in Barcelona, as per reports from NeedToKnow. Since June 21, his phone has been inactive, and there has been no activity on his social media profiles. Wakefield expressed concern, stating, “On Saturday, June 20th, Mick left Leeds en route to Boston, USA, for one of England’s World Cup matches, transiting through Barcelona. It seems he did not reach Boston, and our most recent interaction with him was from Barcelona early on Sunday morning, June 21st. Subsequently, his phone has been inactive, and he has not posted any updates on social media. Naturally, we are now deeply worried for his safety.”

His family has filed a missing person report for Mr. Hewitt, and the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office has initiated an investigation under reference number 02470905. Interpol has also been contacted to determine if he traveled beyond Spain. The authorities are conducting inquiries under case reference 20260628/1183.

Mr. Wakefield further mentioned, “Well-known as ‘Little Mick,’ particularly within the Leeds United community, he is a familiar figure to many Whites fans worldwide, having supported the club both home and away for many years. If anyone has seen Mick after Sunday, June 21st, or has had any contact with him since then, kindly inform us or the FCDO. Thank you.”
