A tragic incident occurred when a hiker lost her life in a horrifying alligator attack while trying to cool off in a river with her boyfriend near Orlando, Florida. The 31-year-old woman was enjoying the shallow waters of the Econlockhatchee River when the alligator suddenly attacked, clamping its jaws on both of her arms.
Despite desperate efforts by her boyfriend to free her from the alligator’s grasp and call for emergency assistance, the creature managed to tear off one of her arms and severely injure the other. The attack occurred around 1:30 pm while the group was kneeling in the water, as confirmed by wildlife official Grant Eller from Florida’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
In a distressing call to emergency services, the woman’s boyfriend can be heard in a state of panic and anguish, with another woman providing details of the gruesome event. The dispatcher was informed that both of the woman’s arms were severely injured, with one barely hanging on and the other completely detached.
Despite the immediate response from rescuers, the woman tragically succumbed to her injuries before reaching the hospital. Her identity was not disclosed as authorities were still in the process of notifying her family.
Following the attack, Seminole County sheriff’s deputies located and removed two large alligators from the area with the assistance of a professional trapper. The captured reptiles, measuring 13 and 12 feet in length, had their DNA sent for analysis to determine the aggressor.
This fatal incident is one of several recent alligator attacks in central Florida, attributed to the animals’ increased territorial behavior after the mating season.
