A young boy’s body has been found in a country park located in northern Manchester.
Emergency responders were alerted to an incident at Clifton Country Park in Swinton on Saturday afternoon, where a 15-year-old was reported to be in distress in the water. Today, search teams discovered a body in the water at the park.
Although formal identification is pending, Greater Manchester Police have notified the boy’s family and are providing them with support. Authorities are cautioning the public to be mindful of the warm weather conditions and to take necessary safety precautions.
Detective Inspector Dave Ogden expressed sympathy for the tragic loss of the young boy’s life and emphasized the risks associated with open water activities. While assuring the absence of any suspicious circumstances, he urged people to refrain from entering water bodies like reservoirs, rivers, and ponds for their safety.
In another incident on the same day, the body of a 15-year-old boy was recovered from Cowbury Reservoir in Stalybridge, Tameside, while a 55-year-old woman lost her life after entering a pool at Sandwell Valley Country Park in West Bromwich, West Midlands.
Recent drownings include a 13-year-old from Syston, Leicestershire, a 22-year-old recovered from the River Severn in Shrewsbury, and another 15-year-old found at Testwood Lakes near Southampton.
The Mirror initiated the “Save Lives for Sam” campaign in June to address the concerning number of child drownings in England annually. The campaign advocates for water safety education in schools, public awareness initiatives, improved safety measures at waterways, the implementation of Sam’s Law, and the appointment of a dedicated Minister for Water Safety.
