Prior to his grand event, the Great American State Fair, self-proclaimed main act Donald Trump bragged about drawing larger crowds than Elvis at his peak. However, as the event marking the 250th US birthday unfolds, it appears that only the attendees are departing.
Originally intended as a patriotic platform for the nation’s historic milestone, the fair has turned into a series of embarrassing mishaps: vacant spaces, missing performers, malfunctioning rides, states not showing up, melting treats, and a President persisting that everything is “packed to capacity” despite contrasting images. Even the symbolic figure of Uncle Sam has been arrested.
Touted as the “Top Attraction Worldwide,” the 16-day festivity on Washington’s National Mall has morphed into a spectacle resembling a local fair that forgot to invite the local community.
Kristen Hamilton, an attendee at the fair, expressed disappointment, stating, “I anticipated an event to honor America’s birthday. Instead, it felt like someone else’s political rally. I’ve seen busier small-town events back home. Half of the booths were empty, and the rest appeared desolate, waiting for patrons.”
The 36-year-old, who previously supported Trump but now criticizes him despite remaining a Republican, commented, “The most noticeable noise wasn’t the music but rather organizers insisting on the success of it all. The line for the portable toilets surpassed the one to catch a glimpse of Trump.”
Judd Payner, aged 57, remarked, “America’s 250th birthday deserved an inclusive celebration. Instead, it felt like a large portion of the nation opted not to participate. I’ve attended county fairs throughout my life. This one lacked the festive ambiance and was overshadowed by politics.”
At the fair’s opening with Trump taking the stage, Americans were promised a grand patriotic display featuring all 50 states, renowned performers, and a unifying celebration for a divided country.
However, attendees were met with a repetition of Trump’s familiar grievances, self-praise, and attacks on political adversaries, rather than the anticipated performances and unity. Even before the event began, signs of trouble emerged as notable acts like The Commodores, Milli Vanilli, Bret Michaels, and Martina McBride withdrew. Other headliners distanced themselves as the event became intertwined with Trump’s political agenda.
Facing a disintegrating program, the President elevated himself to the main attraction, with aides proclaiming his appearance as “the ultimate rally.” However, the reality fell short of expectations.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy set the tone on the event’s opening night by deriding the departing musicians as “libtards,” an unconventional start to an event meant to celebrate all Americans. Trump proceeded by declaring the United States as the “hottest” nation globally before delving into his customary routine of self-applause and grievances.
Even before his speech concluded, attendees started leaving. Despite Trump’s claim of a packed venue with 45,000 people, eyewitnesses present painted a different picture.
