The mother of a popular British social media influencer accused of fatally stabbing her partner in Dubai revealed that her daughter appeared distressed in a phone call shortly before the tragic event. Brooke George, a 23-year-old TikTok personality from Gravesend, Kent, is facing potential capital punishment as she stands accused of murdering her 26-year-old boyfriend, Bill Treeby. George claims she acted in self-defense, citing past abuse during their visits to the UAE, leading up to the fatal altercation where she resorted to using a kitchen knife in defense.
In a statement, George’s mother, Thereza George, expressed concerns about her daughter’s well-being, noting a noticeable change in her demeanor before the incident. According to her mother, their relationship dynamics had shifted after Brooke’s return to Dubai, with signs of distress becoming apparent. On the night of the incident, following a visit to a bar in Dubai, Brooke was described as visibly terrified and distraught, showing physical signs of distress.
Recent revelations have shown that Treeby had a history of violent offenses, including unlawful wounding and common assault in a previous court case in Maidstone Crown Court in December 2023. Radha Stirling, CEO of the legal advocacy group Detained in Dubai, raised suspicions of potential exploitation, indicating concerns about George being misled into traveling to Dubai under false pretenses. Stirling urged UAE authorities to thoroughly investigate claims of domestic abuse and possible exploitation, emphasizing the importance of examining electronic devices and communications connected to the deceased.
Both friends and family of George expressed worries about her safety in the weeks leading up to the tragic incident, citing concerns about potential exploitation and abusive behavior. The Foreign Office confirmed their engagement, stating they are in contact with the British woman detained in the UAE and offering support to her family while liaising with local authorities.
