US and Iran Agree to Temporarily De-escalate Strait of Hormuz Tensions

The recent exchange of strikes between the US and Iran in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz has led to both countries agreeing to temporarily de-escalate tensions. This decision follows the signing of a 14-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) on June 17, with technical discussions set to proceed. The US official mentioned that vessels are now permitted to move freely in the region.

While the US has taken action in response to a drone attack on a cargo ship, Iran has not officially commented on the reported cessation of strikes. The US President, Donald Trump, condemned the drone attack as a breach of the Ceasefire Agreement in a post on Truth Social. Subsequently, the US military conducted airstrikes on Iranian drone and missile storage facilities as well as coastal radar sites, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM).
