PlayStation has officially announced that it will be removing a significant number of movies purchased by users from their accounts within the coming months. In a notice labeled as a “legal notice,” PlayStation explained that due to licensing regulations, these movies will be taken off users’ accounts, rendering them inaccessible for viewing.
Users of PlayStation who own the latest devices, namely the PS4 and PS5, have the option to stream, rent, or purchase movies. Previously, this was done directly through the PlayStation store, but now it is facilitated through the Sony Pictures Core app. Affected users were informed that a total of 551 movies will be taken down starting from September 1.
Among the titles being removed are well-known films such as Terminator 2, Total Recall, and Shaun The Sheep Movie – Farmageddon. Additionally, movies like Alan Partridge, The Evil Dead, Brighton Rock, The Deer Hunter, and Paddington will no longer be accessible to users, even if they had previously bought them.
In the message sent out by PlayStation, it was stated, “From September 1, 2026, due to our content licensing agreements, you will no longer be able to access your previously purchased content from Studio Canal, and it will be removed from your video library.” The communication concluded with a simple “Thank you, PlayStation Store” and a comprehensive list of the 550 films affected by this decision.
