“NHS-supporting Grandmother Passes Away After Covid Booster”

An 85-year-old grandmother from Derby, known for showing her appreciation for the NHS by banging pans, passed away shortly after receiving her Covid-19 booster vaccine. Mohinder Kaur Mahal experienced difficulties speaking a week after receiving the vaccine and a flu shot in Derby. She was admitted to the hospital and tragically succumbed to a stroke 12 days after being vaccinated.

During the inquest into her death on June 22, her son, Baldev Mahal, expressed concerns about a potential connection between the Covid jab and his mother’s stroke. He mentioned feeling that something triggered his mother’s health decline. Despite not wanting the vaccine initially due to fear of Covid, Mrs. Mahal eventually agreed to get vaccinated.

Baldev Mahal highlighted that he and his mother were not adequately informed about the vaccination process and were not given sufficient information or consent. He described his mother experiencing blurred vision, pain, and confusion following the vaccination, leading to her deteriorating health and eventual passing.

Dr. James Scott, a stroke consultant at Royal Derby Hospital, shared that he believed Mrs. Mahal’s pre-existing health conditions, including heart failure and a previous stroke, were significant factors in her stroke, rather than the vaccination itself. The inquest also heard statements from Mrs. Mahal’s children, reflecting on her fear of Covid-19 and her strong support for healthcare workers.

The inquest proceedings were relocated to Leicester from Derby due to allegations of bias by the previous coroner, as claimed by Baldev Mahal. The investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding Mrs. Mahal’s tragic passing.
