Tech CEO Joshua Baer Dies in Texas Jet Crash

A wealthy technology executive tragically perished in a fatal private jet crash on a Texas highway. The confirmed victim, Joshua Baer, served as the CEO of Capital Factory, with the company praising him as a visionary leader in the Texas technology and startup community. The incident involved a total of six individuals on board, resulting in one fatality.

Renowned as the ‘Godfather’ of the tech startup industry in Austin, Texas, Baer operated his venture capital firm, Capital Factory, in the area. The ill-fated flight took off from Los Cabos International Airport in Mexico en route to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport but crashed near the Mexican border in Laredo, Texas, following a distress call to the local airport for an emergency landing.

Capital Factory’s president, Bryan Chambers, honored Baer as a fearless business leader and close friend to many, emphasizing the organization’s resilience in the face of this tragic loss. Despite the devastation, the company remains fully operational, committed to upholding Baer’s legacy of supporting ambitious entrepreneurs.

The crash occurred late in the evening on Texas State Highway Loop 20, where the jet collided with a vehicle, injuring one motorist who was later hospitalized in stable condition. Reports indicated that the pilot had communicated issues of low fuel and a power outage to air traffic controllers before the accident.

Footage from the chaotic scene depicted bystanders rushing to aid those aboard the jet, with dramatic attempts to rescue individuals trapped inside the burning aircraft. The Cessna Citation Latitude twin jet, operated by NetJets, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway owned by Warren Buffett, sustained severe damage, with its fuselage separated from the tail upon impact.

Witnesses described the surreal scene as reminiscent of a movie, with onlookers shocked by the harrowing events unfolding before them. The aftermath of the crash prompted a swift emergency response, with firefighters and police working to rescue passengers and secure the area amid the ongoing threat of fire and smoke.

This incident marked the third notable aviation accident in the United States within a short span, following a B-52 crash in California that claimed eight lives and a fatal plane crash in Missouri during a skydiving excursion that resulted in 12 fatalities.
