The mother of a nine-year-old girl recounted that her daughter was in high spirits after a satisfying dance class before she was tragically stabbed by a teenage boy, a court was told. Aria Thorpe met her untimely end after being stabbed in the chest at her residence in Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset, on December 15 last year. The accused, a 16-year-old boy who remains unnamed due to his juvenile status, refutes the charges of murder and manslaughter in connection with Aria’s demise.
During the court proceedings at Bristol Crown Court, Aria’s mother, Victoria Hull, known as Tori, shared a statement with the jury. She detailed how she assisted Aria in getting ready for school that morning. Following a mix-up regarding Aria’s dance class, which she had forgotten about, Ms. Hull returned to collect her daughter, who expressed her desire to attend the class. After a pleasant outing to Aldi to purchase mini-pizzas and toppings, they returned home, where Aria enjoyed her pizza while watching YouTube.
Describing the evening, Ms. Hull mentioned that Aria appeared cheerful and content after her dance class. The mother then left for work at Pontins for evening shifts to save up for Christmas. Upon receiving distressing news and rushing to a friend’s house, she was informed about Aria’s tragic fate.
Earlier testimonies revealed that following the stabbing, the teenage boy confided in a group of children at a nearby railway station, admitting to the heinous act. One of the children, a 14-year-old girl, promptly alerted the police and directed them to the boy’s location on the platform.
Subsequent police interviews with the children who interacted with the accused at the station shed light on his behavior and their observations. The accused’s apprehension and subsequent arrest by Pc Timothy Stride at Worle train station were detailed, including the boy’s admission to the stabbing in a prepared statement.
The trial overseen by Mrs. Justice O’Farrell is ongoing as further evidence and testimonies are presented in court.
