Mr. Starmer declared the UK-EU summit date, highlighting his government’s efforts to strengthen the UK’s ties with Europe. He expressed intentions to address the cost of living, enhance employment opportunities, and support youth initiatives.
An agreement on a youth mobility program, enabling individuals under 30 from the UK and EU member states to live, work, and study in each other’s countries, is anticipated at the summit. However, discussions are ongoing regarding tuition fees for EU students in England, caps on participant numbers, and visa issuance for British youth by European nations.
Amid renewed debates on Brexit, leadership contender Wes Streeting raised the prospect of rejoining the EU. Andy Burnham cautioned against revisiting Brexit discussions, emphasizing the need to avoid a perpetual stalemate. The Greater Manchester Mayor hinted at a more open stance on rejoining the EU in the future.
