A male suspect has been identified and charged in connection with a stabbing incident involving a teenage girl in Lancashire. Lancashire Police officers, some of whom were armed, responded to a call at 3:06 pm on Friday, June 12, on Wood Street in Brierfield, where they discovered a 17-year-old girl with a stab wound to the back of her neck. The victim was promptly transported to a hospital, where her injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening. Subsequently, she was discharged from the hospital and is currently recuperating at her residence.
Following the incident, a 30-year-old man was apprehended on suspicion of attempted murder and was taken into custody. The individual, identified as Junaid Nawaz, 30, residing at Livingstone Walk, Brierfield, of British-Pakistani descent, has been formally charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife in a public area. Nawaz is currently in custody awaiting a scheduled appearance before Blackburn Magistrates Court the following morning (Monday).
A police spokesperson mentioned that additional patrols will be conducted in the vicinity, and an appeal has been issued for anyone possessing information or footage related to the incident to come forward. The community has expressed shock over the incident on social media, particularly given the small-town setting with approximately 8,000 residents. One individual shared on Facebook, “So relieved that the girl’s injuries are not life-threatening.”
