Lewis Hamilton has advised England football fans to wait until the Three Lions actually win the World Cup before chanting ‘It’s Coming Home’. The racing superstar shared his message with supporters of Thomas Tuchel’s team on the first day of the tournament in North America, also mentioning his support for another team this summer.
Born in Stevenage, Hamilton has represented Great Britain throughout his successful F1 career but was given honorary Brazilian citizenship in 2022. Prior to the Monaco Grand Prix, he disclosed his backing for Carlo Ancelotti’s Selecao along with Harry Kane and the England squad.
Expressing his admiration for Brazil, Hamilton stated, “Brazil has always been my favorite team. Growing up in England, I loved watching Brazil play. Their colors, culture, and skilled players always fascinated me; they exuded coolness. I appreciate their background, with many players hailing from the streets where they played barefoot, showcasing the uniqueness of Brazilian culture.”
Hamilton’s remarks sparked significant reactions back in England. However, just before the World Cup commenced with Mexico versus South Africa, he reaffirmed his support for the South American powerhouse teams.
When asked about his World Cup predictions, Hamilton commented, “I don’t have a specific prediction as I don’t closely follow it. I will tune in occasionally, keeping a keen eye on England’s progress. I hope they refrain from singing ‘It’s Coming Home’ prematurely, which is a common practice. I look forward to watching Brazil in their yellow jerseys. I truly enjoy watching Brazil play.”
Having secured second place in his last two Grands Prix, Hamilton seems to have found his form since switching to Ferrari. While a maiden win for the Scuderia seems probable, he acknowledges the challenge unless Mercedes face difficulties or his team can narrow the performance gap with the Silver Arrows.
Hamilton favors the latter scenario, stating, “We aim to win through our performance rather than relying on others’ misfortunes. Every team member contributes, and our goal is to excel collectively. This year, I arrived with a better mindset, fitness level, and approach, striving for continuous improvement.”
