A 23-year-old British man is currently detained in Tenerife following allegations of causing the death of another individual during a reported altercation on a popular party street.
The man, whose identity remains confidential as per Spanish legal regulations unless subjected to a public trial, has been informed that he will be held in a local prison as part of an ongoing investigation into the homicide incident.
The victim, a 37-year-old British national whose name has not been disclosed, passed away early Thursday morning after the purported confrontation at the well-known nightlife hub Las Veronicas in Playa de las Americas, located in the southern region of the island.
Having appeared before a judge in a closed-door court session, customary in Spain where public trials are the norm, the 23-year-old has not yet faced formal charges, a standard procedure in Spain where charges are typically filed closer to trial following an extensive judicial inquiry.
Consequently, he is under official scrutiny as part of the continuous court-led homicide inquiry.
According to a court official, the individual arrested in connection with the fatal incident in Las Americas, Tenerife, was presented before the Duty Court of the Investigating Division of the Court of First Instance of Arona, where the magistrate ordered his provisional detention without bail while further investigations on the homicide offense are conducted.
The case has been placed under a secrecy order by the investigating judge, commonly used in Spain to safeguard judicial inquiries, particularly in their early stages, thereby limiting the release of information by public officials.
Authorities on the island have verified the nationalities of both the detained man and the deceased holidaymaker.
