“Newborn rushed to hospital after car flips on M50”

An infant just eight days old was swiftly transported to the hospital following a vehicle accident in Gloucestershire where the car flipped onto its roof.

The incident occurred when a Peugeot 308 collided with the barrier on the nearside between junctions 1 and 2 of the M50, resulting in the car overturning at approximately 6:15 am on Monday. Subsequently, a 37-year-old woman was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after a thorough investigation by the authorities.

The car’s driver, a woman in her thirties, was admitted for medical care at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, while the newborn baby was rushed to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for treatment.

Due to the accident, motorists experienced significant delays as the accident recovery and police investigation operations were conducted, causing one lane of the M50 eastbound to remain closed for barrier repairs. Emergency services worked at the scene for several hours, leading to a standstill in traffic flow.

Authorities are now seeking witnesses to the crash. A representative from West Mercia Police urged anyone with information or dashcam footage of the events preceding the collision to come forward by contacting PC Pickering via email at paul.pickering@westmercia.police.uk.
