“12-Year-Old Paralyzed in Tragic Sleepover Shooting”

A 12-year-old boy named Myles Beardsley has been paralyzed following an incident where he was shot during a sleepover at a friend’s residence. The tragic event occurred on April 4, as Myles was spending the night with a friend while his parents were at home watching Harry Potter. The mother, Alora Beardsley, expressed deep regret over allowing Myles to go to the sleepover, calling it the biggest mistake of her life.

Myles sustained severe injuries from four gunshot wounds that entered his body and neck, exiting through his spine. He underwent a nine-hour surgery to stabilize his spine with rods and screws after being transferred to a hospital equipped to handle such critical trauma. The surgery left Myles paralyzed from the neck down, devastating his family.

Despite his inability to speak after the surgery, Myles communicated through a system devised by his father using eye blinks to indicate letters of the alphabet. Further surgeries were required to address injuries to his trachea and esophagus, prolonging his stay in intensive care.

After spending 38 days in intensive care, Myles was moved to the rehabilitation floor as he continues to strive for movement and independence. Throughout his recovery, he received support from loved ones and his teacher, who brought handmade cards and letters from his classmates and friends, bringing tears of both joy and sadness to Myles.

The investigation into the shooting incident is ongoing, with reports suggesting that a gun in the house was accessed by one of the children, leading to the tragic outcome that has deeply affected Myles and his family. A fundraising effort has been launched to assist the family with expenses while they support Myles in Seattle.

To support Myles on his journey to recovery, donations can be made through the GoFundMe page linked here.
