Thousands of individuals, including tourists, were evacuated from Crete today due to wildfires that resulted in the deaths of three firefighters in Greece. As gusts reached speeds of 125km/h (77mph) on the island, approximately 8,000 people were evacuated from their residences overnight but were later permitted to return. In France, prominent figures George and Amal Clooney were compelled to evacuate their home amid the fires.
George Clooney expressed uncertainty about the fate of their residence in Brignoles and vowed to support the community in a letter to the mayor. The couple, along with their twins, moved to France permanently in 2021 and obtained French citizenship in December.

Tragic incidents have occurred in Spain, with fourteen fatalities reported in the AlmerÃa region, involving individuals from various nationalities. Fires also continue to ravage parts of Portugal, particularly in the district of Vila Real.
