Wedding Planner Bankruptcy Shatters Tenerife Brides’ Dreams

Dozens of brides in Tenerife have had their wedding plans shattered as their wedding planner’s business went bankrupt. The brides, who had entrusted up to £30,000 to Weddings in Tenerife SL operated by British national Claire Lopez, received an email last Friday announcing the insolvency. Approximately 20 couples are now uncertain about their upcoming ceremonies, with many of the services they paid for remaining unfulfilled.

Among those affected are Kayleigh Billington and Phil Golding from Merseyside, who had invested £15,000 in their wedding arrangements with Ms. Lopez since 2023. The couple had envisioned a magical event with 40 guests on June 6, but their dreams were dashed when they discovered the financial crisis.

Despite their diligent payments and efforts to communicate with Ms. Lopez, the couple received distressing news from the hotel where their wedding was planned. Ms. Lopez’s email confirmed the company’s impending insolvency, leaving the couples without the promised services and products for their big day.

With most of their payments unaccounted for, Ms. Billington and Mr. Golding faced the daunting task of informing their guests about the uncertain situation. Fortunately, with the support of vendors offering discounts and the hotel’s generosity, the couple managed to salvage their wedding plans by incurring additional costs.

Despite the financial strain, the couple remained determined to proceed with their wedding, appreciating the community’s assistance in overcoming the unexpected challenges. They launched a GoFundMe page to alleviate some of the financial burden.

In a similar predicament, Ella Hudson and Sam Tuck from Cambridgeshire faced the prospect of reorganizing their wedding plans after paying £16,000 for a ceremony that may not materialize. The couple, like others, expressed their devastation over the turn of events caused by the collapse of Weddings in Tenerife SL.

The company, previously co-directed by Ms. Lopez and Lars Jensen, transitioned to Ms. Lopez as the sole director in 2024, raising questions about its operations. Efforts to reach Ms. Lopez and Spanish authorities for comments have been made by The Mirror.

The affected couples, including those who had made significant financial sacrifices for their weddings, are now left grappling with the aftermath of the failed arrangements, as they navigate the challenges of rebuilding their special day.
