A private jet belonging to Warren Buffett crashed and caught fire on a busy Texas highway, resulting in one fatality and prompting bystanders to attempt a rescue by breaking the aircraft’s windows. The incident occurred on Loop 20 highway in Laredo, with the plane colliding with moving vehicles.
Pictures depicted the small aircraft overturned with flames engulfing the rear section, emitting a thick plume of smoke upon hitting a barrier on the highway. The tail section was separated from the main body. Good Samaritans arrived at the scene equipped with a sledgehammer and shovel to break through the cockpit glass in a bid to open the plane’s door.
The identity of the deceased individual, whether onboard the plane or on the ground, remained uncertain. No injuries were reported among bystanders, although five officers were treated for smoke inhalation. The jet had departed from Los Cabos International Airport in Mexico and crashed near Laredo International Airport, with the cause of the accident yet to be determined.
Laredo International Airport Director Gilberto Sanchez confirmed the aircraft as a small private Cessna plane. Flight data indicated a controlled descent towards the airport before communication was lost at 600 feet, approximately 2.5 miles from the runway. Witnesses described a dramatic scene of passengers attempting to escape the plane as bystanders rushed to their aid.
